A total of 18 teams from Hyvinkää Upper Secondary School, vocational institutions, and middle schools competed for the school curling championship at the Hyvinkää Curling Hall. The ice was filled with joyful energy, great successes, and tight matches. Because of the large number of participants and a tight schedule, the matches were played as two-end games, but as always in sport, winners were decided.
After a close final, Team Nykis from Kipinä Upper Secondary School took first place. Claiming silver after a hard-fought battle was Team Game of Stones from the same school, and Hyria's team took the bronze. Both the final and the bronze medal match ended 2 ends tied at 1–1, so the winners were ultimately decided in an exciting draw-to-the-button (T-shot) competition.
The tournament and the group of wonderful, open-minded young people on the ice proved once again that school curling is in high demand. A big thank you for this goes to the physical education teachers of Hyvinkää's schools, who have done a wonderful job integrating our sport into school P.E. This is a great way to move forward toward the next event—the elementary school tournament being held next week. A huge thank you to all participants and congratulations to the winners!
